Larisa Wade

My brother with more color. Which is better?

Picture Style and Form

45mm   f/13   1/80

On the day the snow storm was moving into Seattle it was hard to get much color variation into this scene. I like how the use of the vivid scene kicked up the color in an otherwise dull picture.

150mm    f/5.3   1/500

This goose joined me on the very cold beach. I sat on log a took a lot of pictures and learned a lot about form and the value of getting to know wildlife up close and personal.

Raindrops on Roses

I took this photo using a 50mm prime lens with a 12mm extension tube at f/2.8, 1/500 shutter speed, and ISO-160. I used Canon's "Faithful" picture style.

Pebbles on the Beach

I took this photo with a 50mm prime lens and a 20mm extension tube at f/7.1, 1/160 shutter speed and ISO-100.

Weathered Park Bench

I shot this weathered old park bench at Heritage Park using f/2.8, 1/60 shutter speed, and ISO-200 with a tripod.

SUNSET AT CANNON BEACH

"The Joy of a Child" by Evelyn

I saw this rolled up snow with attached leaves, as another way to express pattern and lines, with the added smile of a child.
f 6.3, 1/60, iso 100

"A Simple Drop" by Evelyn

...just a simple branch with ice droplet that caught my eye as I was walking in the yard. F5, 1/1000, 200 iso

"Simplicity in the woods" by Evelyn

I like the contrast of B&W photos. In this photo, I like the vertical and horizontal lines of the trees, with the added touch of white snow.  70mm, f4.5, 1/125

Repetition, Shape and Form

Icicle at sunrise

This was shot from my deck at sunrise. I used the 'vibrant' setting in my camera and the colors were much richer in that setting. I like all of the natural lines of the trees mixed with the straight lines of the fences.
f/7.1 exp 1/200 ISO 400
This was also shot at sunrise from my deck. With the icicles at different distances from the lens I think it shows depth and form.

Picture Style- Larisa Wade

Erm, the picture style here was Standard. f5.6, because it's my favorite. Subject is my brother holding a gift for his girlfriend :)

Snow Day Homework - "Ice, Ice, Baby"

Went out after dark with my husband holding a flashlight at an angle against this icycle. Nikon D5000, macro lense.

Filter - "Fall Day on the Cowlitz"

Could definitely tell the difference using a polarizing filter on this shot compared to the others. Nikon D5000, vibrant picture style, f11.

Picture Style - "A Walk in the Woods"

Liked the monochrome best in this shot too (I guess it was kind of a monochrome day!) and how I caught the trees in the puddle. Nikon D5000, f8.

Shapes, Form, Reptition & Pattern - "Wood on Wood"

Shot in monochrome, Nikon D5000, f3.5 (I think!). I like the patterns and textures of the various wood in this shot.

"Snowcapped" -- Terri Perkins

I liked the shape of the pointy little snow caps on these mushrooms!

Snowgrate Rhythms

Had fun out in the snow - and found that it tends to smooth things out rather than create sharp lines - lack of wind I think to drift or cut it.  Shot at f 5.6, 1/125s, ISO 280 and manual white balance

After many hours on a cold gray day at the beach, without much to show for my efforts, this crew lined up nicely spaced and perfectly balanced. I learned a lot that day about patience, angles, and being prepared with hand warmers and gloves with a good grip.

Cathy Tucci - Shape and Form

Leica Digilux 1, Exposure 1/90 sec @ f/2.1, folcal length 7.13, ISO 100, no flash

Nikon D-90, Manual Mode, f/20, 1/200sec, ISO 160, EV -1 1/3, Flash rear mode
Critique okay
Made focaccia bread in wood fired brick oven. I was trying to show depth with shadows. Liked the way the colors of the focaccia bread led my eye inwards of the oven.

Mike R - Picture Style

Nikon D-90, Manual Mode, f/4.2, 1/60s, ISO 200 EV +2
Vivid Style
Critique okay
I liked this style over the other styles since the colors seemed vibrant. I took photo with RAW+JPEG. I was able to get subtle color changes in RAW that I didn't with JPEG but thought this mode worked well.

Mike R - Filters

Nikon D-90, Manual Mode, f/11, 1/125s, ISO 100, EV +1 1/3
PL Polarizer Filter used
Critique okay
I was trying to take photos where the snow wouldn't "white out". The filter helped. I could see some shadows in the snow and still have the sky and shade not under exposed.
